Window Replacement with PowerPole: Case Study

Problem:
Midwest Glass designs, repairs, and installs windows, doors, custom glass showers, glass furniture, automotive glass, framing and more in commercial and residential settings. Their mission is to provide customers with excellent service, products, and workmanship at a fair price, to be a good steward to the community and to provide a safe workplace that gives employees the opportunity to grow and achieve a high quality of life.

Midwest Glass was looking for an easy, safe, and fast solution to replace 180 windows in a historic 1921 building located in Brookings, South Dakota. This property is currently housing 18 luxury apartments as well as professional office space. Boom lifts provided limitations because of the size of the windows; some of the windows being installed were 16’-18’ wide. Scaffolding was impractical because of long set-up times and limited wall access. With so many windows to be replaced, Midwest Glass needed a solution that allowed workers to remove old windows and install the new ones quickly and efficiently.

Solution:
Midwest Glass had seen ReechCraft's PowerPole and thought it might be a good solution to the problems they were faced with. PowerPole provided a much faster set-up time than scaffolding and allowed workers to “leapfrog” the climbing units, only having to move one unit at a time in order to access the next part of the building. Not only did PowerPole prove to be safe for workers and easy to set up, it saved workers significant time and energy by climbing up and down the pole using a gearbox with a simple corded drill rather than the pumping action of pump jack-style systems.

Benefits:
Midwest Glass was instantly pleased with PowerPole's ease of set up, and is continually impressed by the efficiency and speed at which workers can travel up and down the wall, even with a heavy load. Midwest Glass representative, Jacob Mills, said, “The PowerPole is working out great on this project and I see us using it on many projects in the future!”
