A Custom 80 ft PowerMast for Irwin Products

Background: In business since 1991, Irwin Products has continually grown due to their commitment to service and the ability to promptly supply the needs of local construction firms. As a distributor of construction materials, they carry a wide variety of supplies to meet the needs of the construction industry. Based in St. Louis, Irwin Products serves customers throughout eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. Irwin Products is a proud member of the American Subcontractors Association, the Mason Contractor’s Association and the St. Louis Concrete Council.

Innovative Masonry Restoration, based out of Prior Lake, Minnesota and Kansas City, Kansas, serves the entire Midwest with maintenance, repair, restoration and waterproofing for commercial, residential, government and historical properties. IMR had used Reechcraft equipment on other jobs and knew it would be a great fit for this job.Problem: The Harry S. Truman State Office building in Jefferson City, MO, was originally constructed in 1983; the building and grounds consume 53 acres. Since its construction, the decorative limestone panels on the interior of the building have started to deteriorate and fall apart. The limestone panels, some as high as 80 ft in the air, were in need of repair so they did not become a safety hazard to those below. The floor could not support a high load, so boom lifts could not be used. The building is being occupied with office personnel during the renovation period, so setting up scaffolding wasn’t feasible. Solution: ReechCraft worked with Irwin Products to design and build a custom Freestanding PowerMast Quad that could achieve the needed height while still being light enough that the floor could easily support it. The PowerMast system is highly versatile. It provided a safe working platform for restoration workers from Innovative Masonry Restoration without obstructing essential parts of the building so office personnel could continue working as usual. With a skilled two-person crew, the system was erected in two to three hours with a minimal amount of tools. Between every five foot mast section, the PowerMast Quad has a tie that clamps down, giving the system a sturdy structure. This way, workers can erect the system as they ascend, and there's space to carry additional masts within the platform. The base is connected to a stability system that helps workers to balance out the loads. The PowerMast Quad must start out being plumb, level and square; with the aid of a good level and a little training, the crews quickly mastered this system.

Benefits: Vince Irwin Sr. from Irwin Products said, “The Freestanding PowerMast Quad is a perfect fit for this project.” Another great benefit is the ease of moving the system from location to location inside the building. When the time comes to move the Quad, the crew can simply lower the platform and easily move the whole system to the next location without having to disassemble the masts. Even fully assembled, it's so lightweight that it takes only two people to move! And, two of the Quad systems can link together with a modular stage to create a large work bridge to cover over 30 ft of work area. The PowerMast is powered by a gearbox and corded drills on a 120 volt system.

If you have questions about any of our products or have a custom application, don't hesitate to contact us today. Many thanks to Vince Sr. and the team at Irwin Products, Jim Dolby, Michael Mann and Wayne Thaxton at IMR and our Territory Manager, CJ, for sharing their pictures and story with us!

#1: Tuckpointing with PowerMast in Kansas City
KC Scaffold, which has over 40 years of experience delivering scaffolding services & products, used ReechCraft's PowerMast to work on an upscale six-unit apartment complex that required tuckpointing. This was a project that required safe and easy access to these busy apartment buildings, which are located on a steep hillside. By using a PowerMast twin system along with standard scaffolding, workers were able to access all surfaces of the building’s exterior at a comfortable height and could keep all of their tools handy! Sean Connolly at KC Scaffold told us, "The ReechCraft Powermast worked out great for this application!" Click here to read the full blog!

#2: Window Replacement with PowerPole in South Dakota
Midwest Glass was looking for an easy, safe, and fast solution to replace 180 windows in a historic 1921 building located in Brookings, South Dakota. They considered boom lifts, scaffolding and other solutions, but ruled them out for various reasons. ReechCraft's PowerPole was a good solution because it provided a much faster setup time than scaffolding and made for easier access to the building. Not only did PowerPole prove to be safe for workers and easy to set up, it saved workers significant time and energy since it is a powered lift rather than a pump jack-style system. Jacob Mills, of Midwest Glass said, “The PowerPole is working out great on this project and I see us using it on many projects in the future!” Click here to read the full blog!

#3: Window and Brick Restoration in Fargo, North Dakota
Mid-Continental Restoration completed a maintenance and restoration project in Fargo, ND, repairing joints and caulking around windows and other exterior surfaces. Access had to be quick and efficient to get the project done promptly and safely, but rocks and bushes around the perimeter of the building limited access and created an uneven working surface.  Mid-Continental Restoration has been using the ReechCraft PowerPole system for a long time and knew it would be the right system to complete this project. The working height of this project was ideal for PowerPole, and the outriggers made positioning the system around the existing landscaping fast and easy. Foreman Jason Boehmer said, “I love the PowePole system and knew it would be a perfect fit for this job!” Click here to read the full blog!

ReechCraft Helps Prepare the North Pole for Christmas Season: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable access solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how a custom machine helped a well-know celebrity prepare for Christmas.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

ReechCraft Helps Prepare the North Pole for Christmas Season
Background: Mr. S. Claus, a long time ReechCraft customer, is a well-known celebrity, hailed as a hero to children worldwide. With a robust group of employees, a variety of manufacturing equipment and a unique fleet of reindeer-based transportation, Mr. Claus uses his ever-growing collection of ReechCraft equipment throughout the year. His job can be high stress, and it is critical that everything works as expected, even in extreme weather.

Problem: After purchasing a Freestanding PowerMast to use for reindeer flying lessons last year, and several PowerLifts that are used throughout his manufacturing plant and storage facilities, Mr. Claus asked if we could work on a custom machine that would aid his small employees in tree decorating. The trees around the North Pole are especially tall and his employees are especially short, so you can imagine the difficulty they had! In years past, a complicated system of ladders, rigging and rappelling from flying reindeer helped to accomplish the task. This was dangerous though, and frequently resulted in tangled ropes and broken ornaments.

Solution: We spoke with Mr. Claus regarding his access needs and several of our team members were able to make a site visit last spring. The best solution was a Twin Freestanding PowerMast with a custom wrap-around platform. The aluminum equipment is light enough for even the smallest elves to haul and assemble. The versatile adjustable outriggers mean PowerMast can be set up even in tight spaces. The platform allows access to all tree branches and can even be used to place the star at the top of the tree. This year, decorating time was down 48% and injuries were reduced to zero!

Benefits: "We've been decorating trees up here at my workshop for millennia, and it has never been faster or easier! The elves have more time to focus on making toys for all the good boys and girls throughout the world and we don't have to worry so much about injuries!" said Mr. Claus. The easy-to-use machine has proven itself over and over again!

We are so glad to have been able to work on this custom machine, and we look forward to working with the Clauses again in the future!

From all of us at ReechCraft, we wish you and yours
a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Restoring a 100+ Year Old Grain Elevator-Turned-Home in Rural South Dakota with PowerMast: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable access solutions.Today, we are eager to tell you how our PowerMast helped restore a 100+ year-old building on a South Dakota homestead.

____________________________________________________________________________________

PowerMast Helps Wik Family Restore Historic Grain Elevator
Background: Outside the town of Faulkton, in rural South Dakota, sits a rustic, yet elegant bright red grain elevator. Built at the turn of the last century, this building served many decades as a granary on a working farm, but had outlived its purpose by the early 1970's. It was then that Reechcraft General Manager Jay Wik's father, Curtis, purchased the elevator as part of the family's original homestead. Curtis's work on the elevator started out as a hobby, but over the years, with a lot of man hours and even more love, this historic building was transformed into a seasonal home. The home contains an endless amount of detail and history, including five floors connected by a spiral staircase, and an original soda fountain from a local drug store.

Problem: To preserve and maintain the history of the building, some maintenance and updates were needed. A few windows needed replacing, some areas needed caulking and the Masonite siding needed to be re-painted, which is quite a job on a building several stories tall! A boom lift was too expensive and not readily available, and scaffolding would take too long to set up and take down.

Solution: The best solution for this job was ReechCraft’s PowerMast. PowerMast is extremely fast and easy to set up and take down, very lightweight since it is comprised of mostly aluminum with a few steel components and an affordable option since components can be ordered to fit a particular job. PowerMast is able to be used in many different configurations: for this job, it was a single mast system, tied to the building and used with both a single-man basket and a six foot wide two-man basket.

Benefits: With the single mast system, the load capacity is 750 lbs and the maximum working height is 200 feet, which was more than enough for this job! For a tied, twin mast system, the load capacity is 1500 lbs and, with our platform supports, a platform from 20 inches up to 33 inches wide can be used!

Since components can be mixed and matched for many different configurations, PowerMast is a very economical choice. Purchase only the components you need for a particular job, then add additional components to expand later on down the road.

In the years since it was renovated, this historic home has appeared on HGTV and hosted hundreds of curious visitors. The Wik family continues to maintain the property and hopes to see it stand for another 100 years!

If you have questions about any of our products or have a custom application, don't hesitate to contact today. And, thanks to the Wik family for sharing their story with us!

PowerLift Serves a Florida Church
ProblemDiscovery Church, located in Orlando, Florida, opened in 1984 and currently has three campuses throughout the state. Discovery Church is currently in the process of a large demolition and construction project for a new central campus called the New Ministry Center. Discovery Church had been using a competitor's single man lift for various projects and maintenance around the facilities, but that lift failed. There was an immediate need for a replacement lift, but church staff was not sure the direction to go.

Solution: Leaders from Discovery Church attended the 2017 WFX Conference in Dallas, Texas, and it was there that they met the ReechCraft team. When they saw our PowerLift on display, their attention was immediately piqued! PowerLift offers many features the competition (including their previous lift) could not provide, including:

  • an affordable price
  • ease of transportation between campuses using ReechCraft's Hitch Hauler
  • the ability to be cordless

Benefits: Discovery Church has found numerous uses for the PowerLift so far, including electrical installation and repair, AV installation and projector maintenance, exterior signage installation and interior and exterior light replacement. Zack Howes from Discovery Church said, "I would definitely recommend the PowerLift to other campuses and facilities."

We are so glad to have met Discovery Church and to be able to help them solve their unique access problems. If you have questions about any of our products or have a custom application, don't hesitate to contact today. And, thanks to Discovery Church for sharing their story with us!

PowerLift is a Time-Saver for a Canadian Aircraft Refueler: Case Study
Today, we are also eager to tell you how our PowerLift has helped a Canadian aircraft refueling company save significant time and ease the burden on their workers by using our lightweight, portable lift.

Problem: Harnois Aviation, located in St. Thomas Quebec, has been in business since 1958 and is committed to providing high quality petroleum products to clients in the aviation field and beyond. When refueling aircraft, workers form Harnois Aviation were using step stool scaffolding. The scaffolding was heavy, tough to roll around and did not provide a lot of flexibility. Workers were constantly needing to go up and down the stairs, which caused safety concerns and fatigue.

Solution: Pascolift, a ReechCraft dealer in Canada, provided Harnois Aviation with the perfect solution to their access problem! The ReechCraft PowerLift was able to save Harnois workers significant time as they are able to leave the PowerLift erected in the air as they move it around from aircraft to aircraft to refuel.

Benefits: Issues of worker safety and fatigue were addressed: workers no longer have to climb any steps to reach the refueling area. Additionally, when it is time to store the PowerLift, it is quickly lowered and disassembled without the use of any additional tools!

PowerLift's flexibility of use, combined with its lightweight frame, has so many uses that other machines cannot do! According to Eric Maffolini of Pascolift, “The PowerLift is working out great and Harnois Aviation is loving it! We were able to provide Harnois with one hour of training and they quickly realized how much time they would save!”

Just imagine the projects this lightweight machine could do for you! Whether it's hauling materials up and down stairs, indoor or outdoor projects, lighting, or even aircraft refueling, PowerLift can do it all!

Thanks to our dealer Pascolift, out of Drummondville, Quebec, for passing this great story along to us! If you have a ReechCraft project and would like to be featured on our blog, email pictures and information about the project to customer.service@reechcraft.com.

PowerMast Helps with a New Construction Project on a Colorado Mountainside

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft's PowerPole helped with a new-construction project on a rural Colorado mountainside!

PowerPole Goes to Work in Rural Colorado: Case Study
Problem: Boss Architecture, a Denver-based multi-disciplinary design firm, is currently working on a new construction project for a remote cabin in the Rocky Mountains. Access to the tree house-like structure required a product that could work on a slope and be able to move workers and materials at a fast and efficient rate. Because of limitations due to the rural location of this cabin and difficult terrain, larger equipment was impractical to use and costly to transport. Boss Architecture had previously used a pump jack for this type of work, but that strained workers and was time consuming.

Solution: Boss Architecture installed the ReechCraft PowerPole system on this job. The highest point of the system was 40', which is great for a PowerPole tied to the structure. Speed and ease of travel were the most important considerations to Kevin Stephenson at Boss Architecture and his team. With PowerPole, workers were able to quickly access this building's exterior from top to bottom. The system is light enough to be carried into place by hand. The steep, uneven terrain and nearby trees and shrubs were easily worked around.

Benefits: The benefits are easy to identify! Quick installation, lightweight enough to move by hand, simple to use, safe and less strenuous for workers - the list could go on and on! "This system works very well, and allows us to travel up and down each facade with much more ease than our older pump jack setup", said Stephenson. He continued, "ReechCraft has a good thing going with their system, and I am surprised more people aren't using it!"

This cabin looks like a fun project in such a beautiful area! We hope to share more photos from Kevin and his team in the future! If you have a ReechCraft project and would like to be featured on our blog, email pictures and information about the project to customer.service@reechcraft.com.

Tuckpointing on a Six-Building Complex in Kansas City with PowerMast: Case Study

Thank you for your interest in ReechCraft! Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft's PowerMast helped a Kansas City company complete tuckpointing on a six-building complex.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tuckpointing with PowerMast: Case Study

Problem:
KC Scaffold has over 40 years of experience delivering scaffolding services & products, including a full line of scaffolding and accessories. Locarno Plaza, an upscale apartment complex located along Brush Creek in Kansas City, MO, had six buildings that required tuckpointing. (FYI: Tuckpointing is the process of removing old mortar from joints and replacing it with new mortar in order to avoid structural and water damage and to improve the overall look of the structure). This was a project that required safe and easy access to these busy apartment buildings. Besides being located along a steep hillside, it was necessary to maintain access to garage doors and a docking door that were still being utilized during the restoration work, as well as allowing the several hundred residents to come and go.

Solution:
KC Scaffolding installed a ReechCraft PowerMast twin system above standard scaffolding to allow the loading dock to be accessed at all times during the project
. PowerMast has versatility to be installed where others cannot. The twin mast system and platform spanned the entire width of the building to maximize work efficiency. Workers could easily access all surfaces of the building’s exterior at a comfortable height and could keep all of their tools handy!

Benefits:
PowerMast can be assembled (and disassembled) quickly, even when used for a 10-story building like this one. The twin system's 1500 lb capacity was great for moving workers, tools, and supplies for this application. PowerMast can accommodate any platform length, which was a major plus for this job with several different building profiles and layouts. Sean Connolly at KC Scaffold told us, "The ReechCraft Powermast worked out great for this application!"

Window Replacement on Historic Building in Brookings, South Dakota: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft's PowerPole helped a South Dakota company replace windows in a historic mixed-use building.

Window Replacement with PowerPole: Case Study

Problem:
Midwest Glass designs, repairs, and installs windows, doors, custom glass showers, glass furniture, automotive glass, framing and more in commercial and residential settings. Their mission is to provide customers with excellent service, products, and workmanship at a fair price, to be a good steward to the community and to provide a safe workplace that gives employees the opportunity to grow and achieve a high quality of life.

Midwest Glass was looking for an easy, safe, and fast solution to replace 180 windows in a historic 1921 building located in Brookings, South Dakota. This property is currently housing 18 luxury apartments as well as professional office space. Boom lifts provided limitations because of the size of the windows; some of the windows being installed were 16’-18’ wide. Scaffolding was impractical because of long set-up times and limited wall access. With so many windows to be replaced, Midwest Glass needed a solution that allowed workers to remove old windows and install the new ones quickly and efficiently.

Solution:
Midwest Glass had seen ReechCraft's PowerPole and thought it might be a good solution to the problems they were faced with. PowerPole provided a much faster set-up time than scaffolding and allowed workers to “leapfrog” the climbing units, only having to move one unit at a time in order to access the next part of the building. Not only did PowerPole prove to be safe for workers and easy to set up, it saved workers significant time and energy by climbing up and down the pole using a gearbox with a simple corded drill rather than the pumping action of pump jack-style systems.

Benefits:
Midwest Glass was instantly pleased with PowerPole's ease of set up, and is continually impressed by the efficiency and speed at which workers can travel up and down the wall, even with a heavy load. Midwest Glass representative, Jacob Mills, said, “The PowerPole is working out great on this project and I see us using it on many projects in the future!”

A Custom Free Standing PowerMast for Agra Industries: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft built a custom PowerMast for a Wisconsin agribusiness company.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Custom Free Standing PowerMast for Agra Industries: Case Study

Problem:
Agra Industries builds bulk grain storage and handling solutions. Before seeking out a solution from ReechCraft, they had been using a costly and complicated option: a basket on a crane that lifted workers in order to assemble the storage bins. Agra Industries only had one crane and there was no potential for division of labor when it came to building the storage bins. This caused efficiency issues due to extra employee downtime and crane access limitations. OSHA raised concerns about the safety of the basket and crane, since it couldn't be operated safely during less-than-ideal or windy weather. In addition, unexpected poor weather would often delay jobs.

The company tried substituting with scaffolding, but this came with its own complications. The scaffolding had to be set up, then disassembled and reassembled, for every area that needed welding. Starting the entire process over in each section was time-consuming. Next, the company tried vertical lifts, but none met the necessary height requirements for the welding jobs. Alternative vertical machines were too expensive and too heavy for use.

After exhausting the most common access solutions, Agra Industries was unable to find an option that fully addressed the problems that they needed solved in order to increase productivity and effectively use their employees' time.

Solution:
Agra Industries used the PowerMast to address each of their previous access methods' problems. The PowerMast immediately improved the safety of the workers and the jobsite. Welders were working at an ergonomically-correct height, increasing efficiency while simultaneously meeting OSHA guidelines.

The PowerMast scaled perfectly to each specific job and transported easily from one work section to another. Without having to disassemble and reassemble their equipment at every welding section, Agra Industries' workers covered more distances and performed more work at different height intervals and setup locations. Employees could also work in multiple sections simultaneously instead of one section at a time. The PowerMast is steady in windy weather, and as a result, the company can more effectively schedule and utilize their crews with no job delays.

Benefits:
By using the PowerMast instead of cranes or large machines, the company saves time and money. Agra Industries has already seen positive benefits in their business because of this increased efficiency, selling more jobs due to quicker completion time.

Purchasing Supervisor at Agra Industries, Mark Robinson, had this to say about the PowerMast: “The PowerMast saved Agra Industries’ time and helped the company become more efficient by helping with time constraints and scheduling.”
