Tuckpointing with PowerMast: Case Study

Problem:
KC Scaffold has over 40 years of experience delivering scaffolding services & products, including a full line of scaffolding and accessories. Locarno Plaza, an upscale apartment complex located along Brush Creek in Kansas City, MO, had six buildings that required tuckpointing. (FYI: Tuckpointing is the process of removing old mortar from joints and replacing it with new mortar in order to avoid structural and water damage and to improve the overall look of the structure). This was a project that required safe and easy access to these busy apartment buildings. Besides being located along a steep hillside, it was necessary to maintain access to garage doors and a docking door that were still being utilized during the restoration work, as well as allowing the several hundred residents to come and go.

Solution:
KC Scaffolding installed a ReechCraft PowerMast twin system above standard scaffolding to allow the loading dock to be accessed at all times during the project
. PowerMast has versatility to be installed where others cannot. The twin mast system and platform spanned the entire width of the building to maximize work efficiency. Workers could easily access all surfaces of the building’s exterior at a comfortable height and could keep all of their tools handy!

Benefits:
PowerMast can be assembled (and disassembled) quickly, even when used for a 10-story building like this one. The twin system's 1500 lb capacity was great for moving workers, tools, and supplies for this application. PowerMast can accommodate any platform length, which was a major plus for this job with several different building profiles and layouts. Sean Connolly at KC Scaffold told us, "The ReechCraft Powermast worked out great for this application!"

Window Replacement on Historic Building in Brookings, South Dakota: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft's PowerPole helped a South Dakota company replace windows in a historic mixed-use building.

Window Replacement with PowerPole: Case Study

Problem:
Midwest Glass designs, repairs, and installs windows, doors, custom glass showers, glass furniture, automotive glass, framing and more in commercial and residential settings. Their mission is to provide customers with excellent service, products, and workmanship at a fair price, to be a good steward to the community and to provide a safe workplace that gives employees the opportunity to grow and achieve a high quality of life.

Midwest Glass was looking for an easy, safe, and fast solution to replace 180 windows in a historic 1921 building located in Brookings, South Dakota. This property is currently housing 18 luxury apartments as well as professional office space. Boom lifts provided limitations because of the size of the windows; some of the windows being installed were 16’-18’ wide. Scaffolding was impractical because of long set-up times and limited wall access. With so many windows to be replaced, Midwest Glass needed a solution that allowed workers to remove old windows and install the new ones quickly and efficiently.

Solution:
Midwest Glass had seen ReechCraft's PowerPole and thought it might be a good solution to the problems they were faced with. PowerPole provided a much faster set-up time than scaffolding and allowed workers to “leapfrog” the climbing units, only having to move one unit at a time in order to access the next part of the building. Not only did PowerPole prove to be safe for workers and easy to set up, it saved workers significant time and energy by climbing up and down the pole using a gearbox with a simple corded drill rather than the pumping action of pump jack-style systems.

Benefits:
Midwest Glass was instantly pleased with PowerPole's ease of set up, and is continually impressed by the efficiency and speed at which workers can travel up and down the wall, even with a heavy load. Midwest Glass representative, Jacob Mills, said, “The PowerPole is working out great on this project and I see us using it on many projects in the future!”

A Custom Free Standing PowerMast for Agra Industries: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft built a custom PowerMast for a Wisconsin agribusiness company.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Custom Free Standing PowerMast for Agra Industries: Case Study

Problem:
Agra Industries builds bulk grain storage and handling solutions. Before seeking out a solution from ReechCraft, they had been using a costly and complicated option: a basket on a crane that lifted workers in order to assemble the storage bins. Agra Industries only had one crane and there was no potential for division of labor when it came to building the storage bins. This caused efficiency issues due to extra employee downtime and crane access limitations. OSHA raised concerns about the safety of the basket and crane, since it couldn't be operated safely during less-than-ideal or windy weather. In addition, unexpected poor weather would often delay jobs.

The company tried substituting with scaffolding, but this came with its own complications. The scaffolding had to be set up, then disassembled and reassembled, for every area that needed welding. Starting the entire process over in each section was time-consuming. Next, the company tried vertical lifts, but none met the necessary height requirements for the welding jobs. Alternative vertical machines were too expensive and too heavy for use.

After exhausting the most common access solutions, Agra Industries was unable to find an option that fully addressed the problems that they needed solved in order to increase productivity and effectively use their employees' time.

Solution:
Agra Industries used the PowerMast to address each of their previous access methods' problems. The PowerMast immediately improved the safety of the workers and the jobsite. Welders were working at an ergonomically-correct height, increasing efficiency while simultaneously meeting OSHA guidelines.

The PowerMast scaled perfectly to each specific job and transported easily from one work section to another. Without having to disassemble and reassemble their equipment at every welding section, Agra Industries' workers covered more distances and performed more work at different height intervals and setup locations. Employees could also work in multiple sections simultaneously instead of one section at a time. The PowerMast is steady in windy weather, and as a result, the company can more effectively schedule and utilize their crews with no job delays.

Benefits:
By using the PowerMast instead of cranes or large machines, the company saves time and money. Agra Industries has already seen positive benefits in their business because of this increased efficiency, selling more jobs due to quicker completion time.

Purchasing Supervisor at Agra Industries, Mark Robinson, had this to say about the PowerMast: “The PowerMast saved Agra Industries’ time and helped the company become more efficient by helping with time constraints and scheduling.”

Window & Brick Restoration with PowerPole: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft's PowerPole helped to complete a window and brick restoration job in Fargo, North Dakota.

 ______________________________________________________________________________________

Window & Brick Restoration with PowerPole: Case Study

Problem:
Mid-Continental Restoration Co., Inc. located out of Fort Scott, KS, recently completed a maintenance and restoration project in Fargo, ND, located at the Pastoral Center for the local Catholic Diocese. While the building is just over a decade old, it was time to repair joints and caulking around windows and repair other surfaces on the outside of the building. Access had to be quick and efficient to get the project done promptly and safely. Rocks and bushes around the perimeter of the building posed a problem as they created an uneven working surface and limited where and how the upper floors of the building could be accessed.

Solution:
Mid-Continental Restoration has been using the ReechCraft PowerPole system for a long time and knew it would be the right system to complete this project. The working height of this project was 24 ft, which is ideal for PowerPole and meant that PowerPole could free stand with the use of our outriggers and V-Brace without the need for additional ties. The outriggers at the bottom of the PowerPole not only made positioning the system fast and easy, but the landscape-friendly design also allowed the system to be used on the uneven terrain that the area provided and around any landscaping.

Benefits:
Jason Boehmer, Construction Foreman at Mid-Continental Restoration, said “I love the PowerPole system and knew it would be a perfect fit for this job!” Workers were able to assemble PowerPole in a matter of minutes and be up and working on the exterior of the upper floor very quickly. The Platform Support accommodates a wide range of standard work platforms from 12 in. to 24 in., so both workers had plenty of room to work and store tools and supplies. In addition, PowerPole is highly portable, so repositioning the system around the building was easy. When the job was done, PowerPole can be disassembled and packed in a trailer or truck bed for easy transport to the next jobsite.

Historic Building Renovation in Downtown Fargo, ND: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft's PowerMast is helping make renovation work a little easier in a historic building in Fargo, North Dakota.

 ______________________________________________________________________________________

Historic Building Renovation in Downtown Fargo, ND: Case Study

Problem:
Syncorp Construction Services, located in West Fargo, ND, offers concrete, steel erection and general construction services throughout the area. Syncorp is currently working on a restoration project in the historic "Black Building" in downtown Fargo, which has been a landmark since its construction in the 1930's. The project entails work within a tight elevator shaft to fix and install wiring, repair concrete and repair and install new framing. The elevator posed a real problem with scaffolding as it would take too long to install, it would not allow the crew complete access to the working surfaces and did not provide a completely safe environment.

Solution:
ReechCraft took on the project and offered our PowerMast system as a solution. The PowerMast system allowed for one climbing unit to be installed on each side of the shaft, each with an independent platform and work surface. This allowed for the crew to have complete access to the shaft on all four side, at any height and at any time. This not only made completing the job faster and more efficient, but also safer as well.

Benefits:
Since the PowerMast allows you to build as you go - with 5-foot mast sections featuring our tools-free coupler system - assembly is much less time-consuming than scaffolding. PowerMast offers accessibility up to 200 feet, which was perfect for this job. Without extensive scaffolding to work around, all heights of the elevator shaft are accessible at all times. For this job, the two separate masts with two independent platforms allow for 2 different areas of the shaft to be worked on at once, so one worker could be repairing concrete near the 5th floor while another is installing wiring in basement. Finally, with the elevator access from 1st floor completely sealed, retail business could carry on a usual while upper floors underwent extensive renovations.

Heritage Printing & Graphics: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Read below to learn how ReechCraft's PowerLift is helping a printer and sign company make day-to-day tasks easier!

______________________________________________________________________________________

Company: Heritage Printing & Graphics

Locations: Charlotte, NC, Washington, DC, and Waldorf, MD

Problem:
Heritage installs custom cut signs, convention and meeting displays, and custom interior graphics as well as providing commercial printing, mailing services, graphic design and branding with a mission to provide quality visual communication solutions through best production practices supported by superior services. Heritage Printing & Graphics was looking for a solution to provide a safer work environment and easier method of installing signs and vinyl graphics because they can be large and very cumbersome making the use of ladders impractical and unsafe.

Solution:
In the last quarter of 2017, Heritage was budgeting for an upcoming year and a priority of the production department was to purchase a PowerLift from ReechCraft. In 2018, Heritage made that purchase along with a Hitch Hauler which allows for easy transportation between job-sites because it attaches to any standard 2” vehicle receiver to transport their PowerLift. They saw an immediate improvement in time and efficiency, initially using the PowerLift throughout their production area. Recently, Heritage printed and hung a large banner using the PowerLift; the banner was 8 feet wide and 92 feet long, and was attached to a wall 18 feet off the ground. They are also using the PowerLift to install displays, wall wraps, and window graphics for clients. As Heritage continues to grow, they plan to use the lift to install wiring and lighting.

Benefits:
PowerLift has been a welcome addition to the team at Heritage, proving itself to be useful, highly portable and versatile! According to Brent Thompson, Production Manager at Heritage Printing & Graphics, “The PowerLift provides us with more capabilities on installs, especially in stores and tight spaces. We utilized the lift to add new graphics to our sign shop too!”. Heritage's General Manager, Lamar Scott added, "We are very happy with the PowerLift, it will be useful for years to come!"

Custom PowerMast at a United States-Based Airport: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft built a custom PowerMast to help an East Coast airport complete a restoration job in a slanted, glass roof.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Problem:
A United States based airport needed to perform a complicated full glass restoration. The Airport has a glass window pyramid that is 60 feet high and has a 55-degree angle from the window's base to the top of the pyramid. Getting equipment onto the roof and then on the glass posed safety problems, but the most difficult aspect of the job was the size of the pyramid-style glass, combined with the tight angle.

The airports restoration plan called for one pass over the glass to repair and one pass for cleaning. During the restoration, workers needed to waterproof existing windows and replace damaged glass panels. Since worker safety was a concern during the restoration, the only way to clean the glass was to walk it up with tie points.  There were no anchor points and installing tie points to access the glass pyramid proved to be difficult. After examining all other options, the workers' positioning on the pyramid was going to be problematic and presented the risk of sliding while working.

Solution:
ReechCraft constructed a custom platform support that accommodated the 55-degree angle of the glass pyramid. The custom PowerMast supported itself on the window's mullions so it couldn’t slide or move side to side, making the setup safe and easy to use during windy conditions. The custom platform support went up to 60 feet with a 24 foot span between masts. The platform support that ReechCraft provided was the ultimate solution.

Benefits:
The custom setup saved the airport time and effort while increasing safety for the workers. With the platform support, their employees were able to safely access all areas of pyramid, even with the tough angle of the glass.

Fixed Base PowerLift Solves a Theme Park's Access Problem: Case Study

Since our founding in 1993, ReechCraft has set itself apart with innovative products and first-rate services. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the market with our durable product solutions. Today, we are eager to tell you how ReechCraft built a custom PowerLift to help a popular theme park inspect and maintain their attractions.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Problem:
Theme park employees needed to access cables, audio/visual and lighting and perform regular inspections and maintenance on one of their major attractions. However, the access point was located behind the attraction's wall, with very little space and wall obstructions that were part of the attraction's set. The biggest problem was the incredibly limited floor space that employees had to maneuver in and around, making the job impossible for standard aerial work platforms or scaffolding.

Before contacting ReechCraft, the company had previously tried suspensions, rappelling and boat swing chairs to access the area. These ordinary access equipment methods caused safety issues and usability limitations for the company.

Solution:
ReechCraft created a custom PowerLift with a fixed, floor-mounted base that was permanently anchored to concrete to solve the problem of limited floor space. There are multiple fixed bases located in strategic positions throughout the theme park and the major attraction. These fixed bases are unobtrusive and fit in the very small areas in the attraction's space. The PowerLift's portability allow it to easily access any of these fixed bases throughout the park.

This custom PowerLift is easy to transport and is taken down for storage when it is not in use. This allows the ride to fully function without hindrance when it's not undergoing inspections or repairs.

This ground-supported solution completely addresses any safety issues that ladders and rappelling access methods created. With this custom PowerLift, workers are free to use their hands and utilize the minimal available space, all while reaching work heights of 26 feet.

A Custom PowerLift for a Popular Cruise Line: Case Study

Problem: A popular cruise line recently launched a brand-new cruise ship featuring state-of-the-art LED technology in their Atrium Bar. This column is the focal point of the cruise ship's lobby, but also presents unique challenges when it comes to routine maintenance and inspections because of its height, nearby obstructions and unusual shape. The location of the atrium on the cruise ship also made it difficult to find a solution to address the problem.

Solution: ReechCraft created a custom, modular, elevated platform with a table-like design where masts can be quickly attached, unattached and reattached. The main mast allows many access points to the LED column, and the custom platform is able to be moved on or around any obstructions for optimal access at any of the column's access points. ReechCraft's compact and lightweight equipment was portable enough to move around the ship and get to the Atrium Bar.

Benefits: The cruise line is also able to use this custom aerial work platform in other locations around the ship. The masts quickly detach from the custom table-style base, which offers more usability in other areas of the ship and maximizes the benefits of this custom setup. The modular design also makes storage a breeze.

Application: Custom PowerLift

Company: Cruise Line

Problem:
A popular cruise line recently launched a brand-new cruise ship with state-of-the-art LED technology. This new ship features an LED column in their Atrium Bar. This column is the focal point of the cruise ship's lobby, but also presents unique challenges when it comes to routine maintenance and inspections. The LED column is tall with obstructions like bars, chairs, and stools, which makes access and maintenance challenging.

The LED panels on the ceiling can be accessed, but the unusual shape of the column made maintenance at the different heights challenging. The location of the atrium on the cruise ship made it difficult to find a solution to address the problem.

Solution:
A cruise line representative stated the following about the custom aerial work platform created by ReechCraft: “For our ship, there were no other practical solutions that were as portable as ReechCraft's PowerLift with custom designed platform.”ReechCraft created a custom, modular, elevated platform with a table-like design where masts can be quickly attached, unattached, and reattached. The main mast allows many access points to the LED column, and the custom platform is able to be moved on or around the obstruction for optimal access at any of the column's access points. ReechCraft's compact and lightweight equipment was portable enough to move around the ship and get to the Atrium Bar.

The base of the platform wraps around the bar, has four locking swivel casters on the table base, and comes with two leg heights to accommodate different levels. The base allows various lateral positions that allow the worker to gain a better position on the LED column.

Benefits:
The cruise line is also able to use this custom aerial work platform in various other locations around the ship. The masts quickly detach from the custom table-style base, which offers more usability in other areas of the ship and maximizes the benefits of this custom setup. The modular design also makes storage a breeze.
